While 2010 was globally symbolized as the year South Africa hosted the FIFA World Cup, it is also the year that marked 15 decades of the history of the Indian indentured immigrants who now constitute a significant minority in the population. The 150th Indian Arrival Anniversary was indeed worthy of celebrations, due to the community’s triumph over the humiliations and indignities to which they were subjected to.
In 2004 we saw the introduction to the first Indian Comedy Festival which was played to a 166 seated auditorium with 6 shows. In 2005 we presented a major Indian Comedy festival, together with Lotus FM, Tabloid Newspapers and Suncoast Casino and Entertainment World in Durban with 6 sold out shows, 2 days before the doors opened to an audience of 3000 people. In 2007 the festival invited two international Indian comedians from London and New York City and the festival toured the major 2 cities of South Africa with 5 shows and played to over 6000 people this time around as well.
As 2010 played a very special year in history of the Indian People in South Africa, marking our 150 years arrival anniversary – the community in many levels both locally and internationally presented festivals, celebrations, musicals & dance concerts, theatre productions, etc to mark the milestone. Vaisnavas Events therefore finds this opportunity to present this major International Indian Comedy Tour to play partner to the post anniversary celebrations in keeping this legacy alive.
